Kuching Waterfront

Our Story

Born on the Sarawak River

Marezure began as a simple conviction — that Sarawak's waterways deserve to be experienced thoughtfully, not rushed through. From that idea, a small fleet and a devoted crew came together on the Kuching Waterfront.

How Marezure Came to Be

Marezure was established in Kuching by a pair of Sarawakians who had spent years guiding naturalist treks through the region's forests. As visitors began asking if the same depth of experience was possible on the water, the answer turned out to be yes — with the right vessel and the right crew.

The company's name is a quiet nod to the sea in several Austronesian tongues — a reminder that these waterways connect Borneo to a much larger world, and have done so for centuries. The Sarawak River carried traders, birds, ideas, and stories long before tourist boats appeared. Marezure's voyages try to honour that older relationship with the water.

Today, Marezure operates from the Kuching Waterfront, offering three distinct voyage experiences across the heritage river, the Bako coast, and the Rajang Delta. Every charter is private. Every crew member is local. Every meal reflects what Sarawak actually tastes like.

Our Mission

To offer private voyages on Sarawak's waterways that are genuinely informed by the region's natural and cultural heritage — thoughtful in pace, and honest in presentation.

Our Approach

Small groups. Local guides. Responsible wildlife practices. We plan each voyage to leave the environment and communities we visit in the same condition we found them.

Our People

Every crew member is Sarawakian, with genuine knowledge of the rivers, the wildlife, and the traditions of the communities along the water. The guides narrate, not recite.

The People Behind Each Voyage

A small, dedicated team that knows these waters personally.

Standards We Hold To

These are not marketing statements — they are operational commitments that shape how each voyage is planned and delivered.

Marine Department Compliance

All vessels are registered and inspected under Malaysia's Marine Department (APMM) regulations. Safety certificates are current and available on request.

Safety Equipment & Training

Life jackets for all guests, first aid kits, marine flares, VHF radio, and EPIRB devices are carried on every voyage. Crew hold current first response qualifications.

Responsible Wildlife Viewing

We follow Sarawak Forestry Corporation guidelines for wildlife observation — maintaining safe distances, avoiding flash photography near animals, and keeping engine noise minimal near sensitive areas.

Low-Impact Operations

Single-use plastics are removed from all catering. Waste is brought back to Kuching for proper disposal. We do not anchor on sensitive reef or seagrass areas.

Guest Privacy

Personal information shared during booking is used solely to coordinate your voyage. We do not share guest details with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Sarawak's Waterways as a Living Heritage

The rivers of Sarawak have shaped the region's culture, economy, and biodiversity for thousands of years. The Sarawak River, which winds through central Kuching, was the commercial artery of Rajah Brooke's nineteenth-century administration. Longhouses once lined the upper Rejang, their stilts rising from water that fed entire communities. River travel was not leisure — it was life.

At Marezure, the voyages we offer draw from this deep connection. A three-hour cruise past the Astana carries more meaning when you understand what that building represented to the Iban people who paddled these same channels before and during the Brooke era. The sandstone stacks of Bako are not merely scenic — they are evidence of ancient coastal dynamics that shaped the island's geography over millennia.

Our cultural guides are trained to bring this context alive without overwhelming the experience. The aim is a richer awareness, not a lecture. Guests who depart having learned something about the river communities, the wildlife behaviour, or the culinary traditions of coastal Sarawak have, we believe, had a more honest encounter with this part of Borneo than a standard tour provides.

Marezure operates from Kuching because the Waterfront remains the natural starting point for understanding Sarawak's relationship with its waterways — and because the city itself, small and walkable, rewards those who arrive with curiosity rather than a checklist.
